The Finest Position In Monetier

Find No. 5 on the plan and that's where the Roche Colombe building is. As you can see, it´s only a short stroll  to Prè Chabert, for the ski lifts and the ski de fond trails. It's also very close to Les Grands Bains, the patinoire (ice rink), the shops, the Place du Marché (the market square), and the restaurants.

The View

The studio has a south-facing balcony equipped with four adjustable chairs and two matching, folding tables. When lunch is over fold the tables away, recline your seats and soak up the mountain sunshine. Looking south-east from the balcony you see the main ski runs and, above them, the fabulous off-piste itinerary known as the Grand Pré. That's it in the picture, the bowl which is catching the sun. The Roche Corneille, which gives the studio its name, is the dramatic rocky outcrop on the left side of the bowl. The other picture  was taken in October. Even then the weather can be hot and sunny. You're looking south-west from the balcony along the Grand Tabuc valley towards towards t Dôme du Monêtier (3404m).

La Petite Corneille

The studio was renovated at the end of 2014 - new kitchen, new bathroom, new furniture, new furnishings, new floor. As you enter you have a 'coin montagne' to the left with bunk beds. To the right you have the bathroom and separate WC. Continuing, you enter the main area. For cooking you have a two-burner ceramic hob with extractor plus a microwave. For dining there's an island with four comfortable upholstered stools. For relaxing there's a couch. For sleeping there's a double bed that pulls down from the wall. During the day just push it back up into place with all the bedding. There's masses of storage. Equipment includes a dishwasher, two-door fridge, coffee-maker, toaster, flat-screen TV, DVD/CD player, and a docking station with radio. There's also wifi, the use of which is free. In winter there's underfloor heating supplemented by two electric radiators and, in the bathroom, a heated towel rail. You'll be snug even on the coldest days.

The Roche Colombe

That's the Roche Colombe building in the photo. It's right in the centre of Monetier but in a quiet position. And La Petite Corneille is the middle balcony on the first floor. Why did we call it La Petite Corneille? Well, a corneille is a crow. And the studio is furnished in modern black. Traditional wood is nice but we wanted to offer something different. What's more, as you'll discover in a moment, you can see the famous Roche Corneille couloir from the balcony. The couloir is not for everyone, but it's nice to watch people coming down (we'll supply a pair of binoculars)
